God Damn do I hate it, but line dancing is the coolest hobby in the world

A few thoughts on line dancing. I want to expand this into an essay later, but some thoughts that struck me when I saw a brief clip of linedancing on Top Gear.

One of the hosts (all British) is at an American Line dancing bar. You could tell this type of dancing is a genuine, embarrasing surprise to him. However that very foreignness that he felt belies the fact that line dancing is almost entirely unique in the modern world. It is a relic of history and a unique Americanness of an not--quite-dead past.

Line dancing started in the same cultural tradition
-LIke old formal dances of the 17th and 18th century, married with the informal community of civil war era, throw in some farming hickness, but make it wildly popular to a small but very vibrant young crowd.
